EMERGENCY IN HONDURAS, 1945

This public domain video from the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-american affairs shows footage from laborers in banana plantations, the building of road infrastructure and everyday life. Honduras is painted as an “ally” from where resources could be extracted after materiel shortages from the Second World War pushed the U.S. to find alternatives. The tone of this film mirrors the rhetoric that would shift for the following decades as the U.S. continued to strengthen its influence in the region.
