There is a theory that suggests that embedded in the fruit fly’s set of behaviours is a dedicated mechanism for forgetting. What would be a maladaptive trait in any other species, allows it to thrive in its search for rot and sweetness. I wonder about such mechanism in myself: a decay-driven forgetting, that allows you to come back over and over again to the same fruit that poisons you, little by little, yet not enough to call it suicide.
